KFOR asked additional troops from NATO for Kosovo, and NATO’s reaction
was immediate. The Spokesperson Carmen Romero declared that the troops
will be offered for preserving safety.

KFOR officials have not given an exact number of the soldiers that will land, but they declared that they have asked a battalion. NATO soldiers are returning to Kosovo after the situation in Northern Kosovo deteriorated when the government sent Police Special Forces and revolted Serbians burned the border checkpoint no.1 in Jarinja.

The situation remains tense while KFOR confirms that among the road-blocking Serbians there are snipers too. However, the KFOR commander, Erhard Buhler, who is staying in the Northern part of the country for most of the time, declared that everything is under KFOR’s control.

“You know that KFOR has cleared four roadblocks during the weekend. There are other ones, but we do not have the right conditions for clearing them. When it will be necessary, KFOR will act”, Buhler declared.

When asked for the visit of the Serbian officials, Bogdanovic and Stefanovic, Buhler said that he doesn’t know if they are in Kosovo. But he added that the dialogue should continue in all levels.

“I don’t have information that they are still in Kosovo. And for those procedural reasons, they are not here. However, it is important to continue the talks in all levels”, Buhler declared.

On the other hand, Serbian officials Goran Bogdanovic and Borko Stefanovic appealed local Serbs to keep the roadblocks.

By answering back to the declarations of Kosovo officials, the head of the Serbian delegation for the dialogue with Kosovo, Stefanovic, declared that Northern Kosovo is not a ghetto, but Serbia.
