Kosovo fails with votes, Serbia “returns” UNMIK

Kosovo faced another defeat in the diplomatic area for their
international recognition, after the resolution of the Council of Europe
Assembly for Kosovo passed this Thursday with four amendments proposed
by Serbia.

Belgrade presented their amendments at the Commission, especially regarding the Kosovo-Serbia relations for the Association of Serbian Communities, for the defense of cultural heritage, although Kosovo was not a member of UNESCO, and for passing some competences to UNMIK regarding institutions such as Interpol and Europol.

These amendments were approved this Thursday at the Commission and were later presented as a resolution by the Commission.

The representatives of Albania, who have the right to vote, helped by the representative of Sweden, proposed amendments that eliminated the requests of Serbia. Unfortunately, all were rejected. The amendment that returned some standards to how they were before independence were rejected for only one vote.

The Head of the Swedish delegation, Jonas Gunnarson, from the Social-Democratic parties, strongly supported the amendments presented by the Albanian representatives, Valentina Leskaj, Petrit Vasili, Namik Dokle and Oerd Bylykbashi, but the Serbian representatives won the battle in the end.

The Albanian representative from Macedonia, Ermira Mehmeti, was also absent in the room.

Countries like Britain, Turkey, Hungary and Sweden gave maximal support, but it was not possible to change the situation.

The man who drafted the resolution for Kosovo, the Spanish rapporteur, Augustin Conde, was absent during the session. The report passed with 112 votes.
