The Serbian Parliament held an extraordinary session about the tense
situation in Kosovo. Serbian MPs are expected to support the declaration
for exerting pressure over Prishtina and for emphasizing Serbia’s
territorial rights.
“The situation in Northern Kosovo and Kosovo is very complex, with all tendencies for turning into a drama. I trust that we will have a wide support for this declaration”, declared Nada Kolundzija, Serbian Democratic Party MP.
The declaration proposed by the Serbian Government expressed its readiness for finding a peaceful solution to the issue, based on international standards and its Constitution.
In this extraordinary session is also present the Serbian President, Boris Tadic, the Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic, and other Serbian Ministers. The head of the Serbian dialogue team, Borko Stefanovic, declared that the situation in Kosovo is dramatic, while asking the MPs to approve the declaration unanimously.
For the Serbian Minister of Kosovo, Goran Bogdanovic, KFOR has infringed the Resolution 1244 and has taken Prishtina’s side.
The tensions started on July 25th, when Kosovo sent the Special Units of the Police in the Northern border checkpoints, mainly with Serbian employers, in order to implement the embargo of Serbian goods. This came as counter response to Serbia, after Belgrade made the same thing with Kosovo exports, after the conflict for the customs stamps.
NATO sent peacekeeping troops for confronting the violence that killed one Albanian policeman and burned one border checkpoint.
