The Constitutional Court in Kosovo rejected the decision of July 17th for appointing Isa Mustafa as Parliament Speaker.
The LDK leader was elected with 83 votes after an agreement between the LDK, AAK, Initiative and Self-Determination Movement.
The decision of the Constitutional Court is a temporary measure taken until there will be a final decision with the respective arguments.
The request for the interpretation of the first Parliament session coming out from the elections of June 8th was filed to the Constitutional Court by the Democratic Party, which considered it a serious violation of the Constitution and of the Parliament’s regulation.
PDK won most of the votes in the June elections, but didn’t secure the majority that is needed for creating the new government. After the results, the opposition parties LDK, AAK, Initiative and the Self-Determination Movement agreed to govern together.
These developments have created an institutional stalemate in Kosovo, where they asked the intervention of the Constitutional Court and their interpretation for the right to appoint the new Prime Minister.
