Korce, mandate of Greek Consul ends

The Greek Consul, Theodhoris Ikonomus will leave his duty in Korce after his mandate expires.

The last day of the Census has coincided with the end of the Greek diplomat mandate, who became notorious in Albania for the nationalist appeals. Sources from the Consulate say that it remains unknown if he will be staying for a second one.

Different to the past two years, during which the Consul has visited his family in Greece every weekend, he has stayed in Korce since the Census registration has started.

Even in the last days of his stay, the diplomat has continued leading the consulate normally and has answered to the citizens’ requests.

The Greek Consul had declared that the population registration in Albania was the only hope for uniting Greece with the Vorio Epirus.

He added that this Census is the last chance for those who call themselves Greeks to be declared as Greek and demand the rights for the Vorio-Epirus.

A few weeks ago, the PJIU leader, Shpetim Idrizi, asked the expulsion of the Consul due to these declarations.
