Korça celebrates the Spring Festival, by “chasing away” winter with fires

In Korça, the last day of winter is being “chased away” by fires, in one of the special rituals of this city to welcome the season of spring.

The pandemic did not stop this pagan tradition, which in addition to fires in every neighborhood and square, is accompanied by family celebrations, although this year those who left the house were fewer as a result of the pandemic.

For the inhabitants of Korca, unlike other Albanian cities, Summer Day, along with March 14, is also celebrated on March 1 by Christian Orthodox believers.
