This Thursday, the former Political Director of the Kosovo Liberation
Army, Hashim Thaci, and the former Chief Commander of KLA, Agim Ceku,
the former now a Prime Minister and the latter Minister of the Kosovo
Special Forces, are the first ones who applied for the veteran status.
The process aims to verify the lists of the former soldiers who were part of the KLA, the invalids and martyrs of the war. Thaci declared that this is the start of the institutional care for the category of veterans.
When asked by the journalists about what will happen with the soldiers who were part of FARK, Thaci declared that everyone who had the KLA emblem will receive institutional support.
“Kosovo had the KLA and its liberators. Everyone who contributed will receive special care from the institutions. We have won together and together we will continue to work for Kosovo’s membership in NATO and the EU, and everyone who had the KLA emblem will receive special institutional care”, Thaci declared.
Muharrem Xhemajli, head of the Association of Veterans in the KLA explained for Top Channel that whoever claims to be a former KLA ember, must tell in his application about where he has been when KLA was engaged to war, must specify the duties and functions, and must write the name of his superior. After the superior will verify and recognize the veteran’s status, any unreal claim will be considered a penal act.
After the war veterans, martyrs and invalids will be registered, Kosovo will amend the law for veterans, which will verify them and decide who will benefit.
