The Serbians have not removed the roadblocks in Rudare, but KFOR commander, Erhard Buhler, has warned them about this action.
A group of Serbians have blocked the road in Rudare, which goes to border checkpoint no.1, by not allowing KFOR to transport supplies to their soldiers in the border.
Buhler declared that this time they stood back for the sake of peace and the citizens, but there will not be a “next time”. His warning came from the bridge over Iber River, in Mitrovica, where he held a press conference.
“We decided to not continue our way, because there are many radicals and extremists on the road. There have been bullets shot towards our convoy, and since we have not been able to distinguish the radicals from common citizens, whose goal was a peaceful protest, I decided to not make our way through violence. This is the reason that we stood back, and the leaders informed us that KFOR will pass, and this will happen tomorrow”, Buhler declared.
According to the German general, this Friday at Northern Kosovo has been calm, and KFOR is holding the border checkpoints in Jarinje, Leposavic, and in Bernjak, Zubin Potok.
Heavy trucks have been stopped on both sides of the border, while KFOR will allow small vehicles to pass through.
Buhler, who has met many Serbians during this time, declared that their requests have a political tendency.
“These are political matters, such as Customs independence, and should be solved through dialogue. I am sure that this will happen in the days to come”, Buhler declared.
According to the German general, Kosovo and Serbian governments, together with EU, should know that safety, calm and peace will soon return in this part of Kosovo.
