KESH opens dam gates

The recent massive rains have increased the water level at the Drin Dam,
obliging the Albanian Powe Corporation (KESH) to get rid of the
excessive water by opening the dam gates.

KESH warns that the Fierza Hydropower Plant level has reached 287.2
meters, 9 meters from the maximal quota. According to KESH, the water
here is coming with a rate of 1000 cube meter per second. The water
level at the Koman HPP has reached 175 m, and the water is coming with
1160 cube meters per second.

KESH says that to manage this situation they need to implement the regulation planned by the technical secretariat.

According to KESH, the Koman HPP is working at full capacity and they
are discharging water at 600 cubic meters per second from the gates, and
570 cubic meters per second from the turbines.

The Vau i Dejes HPP is also working in full capacity, discharging 600
cubic meters per second from the gates and 520 from the turbines.

The improvement of the hydropower situation is good news for the
national economy after two years of crisis, which plunged the energy
system in a chain of debts. However, there’s till the risk of floods in
the entire northwest Albania.
