Kavaja’s Mayor detained in Tirana

A football incident could turn into a political one. The Mayor of
Kavaja, Elvis Roshi, was arrested for threatening and physically
attacking the coach of the Tirana football team, Nevil Dede, and for
resisting to the police officers.

Roshi is currently detained at the Police Directory of Tirana, since the Kavaja police precinct was surrounded by football fans protesting for his release. The Tirana Police declared that Roshi’s arrest was based on three charges.

Roshi has allegedly attacked the coach of the Tirana football team and even threatened his life. The Police also arrested seven people for illegal manifestation and for resisting to the police officers. Three of them are employees of the Kavaja Municipality.

The football fans created a tense situation in Kavaja, obliging the Special Forces to intervene and disperse the crowd.

Roshi’s lawyer denies that his client has used violence.

“The Police were order to keep the Mayor in isolation, and that he shouldn’t be allowed to meet even his lawyer. The judicial officers should fill an act for the trial, and they have neglected it. The worst is that Roshi cannot contact with his lawyer”, Roshi’s lawyer says.

Tirana’s coach, Nevil Dede, declared that he was physically attacked by the Kavaja Mayor and another person.

The Mayor of Kavaja declared for Top Channel that the situation escalated after the Tirana coach offended the Kavaja fans, but he denied having used violence and even of having threatened him.

Although the incident took place after the first half, the Tirana coach sued the Mayor after the match was over and Tirana lost.

Edi Rama: If Mayor used violence, he should apologize

The opposition leader, Edi Rama, declared that the police are being used to hunt for political preys.

“If the Mayor of Kavaja has had a physical conflict with Nevil Dede, the coach of Tirana, this is unjustifiable. A public person and especially a Mayor should never behave as an uncontrolled fan. If this has ever happened, he should make a public apology. However, the brutal behaviour of the Special Police forces sent from Tirana to Kavaja, with a zeal that has not been shown even against the crime, showed that the Mayor of Kavaja is a serious problem to the majority, since he won the public’s vote in Berisha’s stronghold for 20 years. The fact that the Mayor is still detained shows that this conflict is being used for political purposes. You cannot justify Elvis Roshi if he has entered the dressing room of the other team and if he has attacked Nevil Dede, regardless of any public provocation that he might have suffered. It is very serious that the political battle is degenerating the function of the police to this point”, Rama declared.
