Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The former head of the IT at the Prime Minister’s Office, suspected of
obstructing justice and of power abuse, received a lighter custody
measure than the “house arrest” given by the Tirana Court.
Judge Artan Broci ruled that Armando Kasaj must appear to the judicial police every Monday. Prosecutor Nezir Gjoka asked the court to leave Armando Kasaj in house arrest, since he might delete the footage that he is suspected of having copied from the Prime Ministry’s server.
But the defense lawyer, Ilir Murati, told the Court that Kasaj had copied the footage and had given them to the National Guard on DVD.
“The defendant was unable to delete the data on DVD, when these have been given to the National Guard. The National Guard staff has openly declared that this office was under their competence”.
The Prosecution intervened by saying with irony that by the way the lawyer is putting it, the National Guard commander had been acting as a Prime Minister on that day.
By the end of the session, Kasaj admitted of having copied the footage. I have not deleted any thing. I only copied them. The copy was sent to the National Guard and the Prosecution,” Kasaj declared.
“The law has specified the duties of the IT specialist. The other data will be given during the investigation”, Ilir Murati declared.
