Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Tirana Court investigators were unable to find the address of
Nexhmije Hoxha, causing this way the failure of the first trial session
between the wife of Albania’s deceased dictator, Enver Hoxha, and the
writer Ismail Kadare.
The investigators notified judge Bledar Abdullai that he had identified the address “At the former poultry farm, Lapraka”, but not the house.
Nexhmijeb Hoxha has been sued by writer Ismail Kadare for the original manuscript of his work “Dimri i Vetmisw sw Madhe”. Lawyer Flonja Tashko explained for Top Channel why Kadare sued Hoxha.
“Mr. Kadare asked the return of the ‘Dimri i Vetmisw sw Madhe’ original manuscript, which is in the possession of Mr. Hoxha. We asked her to turn it back to the owner, but she refused to do so. The State Archive and the National Museum have also asked her to return the original manuscript, but they failed”, Tashko declared.
The lawsuit says that Nexhmije Hoxha, while visiting the house of Ismail Kadare in the communist period, had suggested that he had a very small house and that he couldn’t keep the manuscript there. She offered to take it temporarily to the Communist Party archive, saving it from any possible damage.
The writer did not object to the wife of the dictator, the most powerful man in Albania of that time, a word against whom could destroy the life of the writer and his family.
Kadare has asked Hoxha to return him the manuscript through a letter, but she has refused and still keeps it illegally.
“We ask the Court to order the search and seize the manuscript and keep it in a safe institution until the trial is over”, the lawyer declared.
Kadare demanded the manuscript so that he can benefit the full copyrights for the work.
