Kacin: Take the positive momentum

The Deputy President of the Euro-Parliamentary delegation for Balkan,
the Slovenian Jelko Kacin, in a press release on the progress-reports of
Albania addressed some messages for the Albanian political class.

“I trust that the Albanian leaders will want to profit from the positive moment that has been created between the government and the opposition after the November political agreement. The stability of institutions and the political dialogue has a great importance. Also the rule of law and the war against corruption are key challenges in which progress is expected”, Kacin declared.

The MP underlines the importance of the institutional independence for the European integration, so that Albania will not fall behind the other countries of the region.

“Keeping in mind that Montenegro has started the dialogue for membership and that Macedonia is now a member country, Albania must be more ambitious than ever. By guaranteeing the independence of the state institutions, Albania will keep with the pace of its neighbours in the EU integration”, Kacin declared.

“I strongly encourage this. Many years have been spent in vain with conflicts between the political parties. This is the right moment for the Albanian leaders to focus on growing the economy and the citizens’ well being”, he underlined.

A journalist in the former Yugoslavia and today a European MP with liberal affiliations, Kacin is well known for his direct messages especially towards Serbia, for which he has been the rapporteur at the European Parliament.
