The European MPs, Kukan and Fleckenstein, are happy with the progress
made so far by the justice reform, and expect the Albanian political
class to start working relentlessly after receiving the opinion of the
Venice Commission.

This was the message given to a joint press release with the Parliament Speaker, Ilir Meta.

“We are here after the decriminalization law, to see how we can support reforms in this country. We are happy with the progress that has been reached so far, and we are waiting for the Venice recommendations. After this, the work will start relentlessly”, said the European MP, Knut Fleckenstein.

The European MP was careful to underline that the implementation of the reform is more important than just passing it. He said he was optimistic for the passing of the reform, since, as he said, the “Albanian politics has convinced him that there is good will to find a solution to the disagreements”.

Fleckenstein reminded that he will present the report for Albania at the European Parliament within a few hours. They will request the Commission to engage a monitoring mission in the justice reform.

“Within a few weeks we will discuss my report about Albania at the European parliament. I will ask the European Commission to send a monitoring mission for the implementation of the justice reform”, Fleckenstein said.

The other MP, Eduard Kukan, expressed his readiness to offer help to the Albanian political class with the EU integration path, every time they will be needing it.

Parliament Speaker Ilir Meta thanked the European MPs for the constant support to the integration path of Albania, and said that a further progress with the justice reform is necessary to reach a higher standard in the fight against corruption and organized crime”.
