Justice Commission meeting: “Vetting within August”

The Justice Reform Commission is racing against time with the Vetting
Draft Law. Different from what has been done so far, experts of all
parties are working together so that they can have an uncontested draft.

“We were introduced to the comments of international partners, and our experts will sit in the upcoming days to find a final version of the draft. This is a legislative drafting process and I believe it will be closed soon”, Bylykbashi said.

International experts did not introduce a written material in the Commission. Although they favored the inclusion of the remarks made by the opposition, it is not clear what opinion they have about the role of the Inspectorate of Assets during the Vetting asset verifications.

Socialist MP, Pandeli Majko, said that all opinions expressed by the opposition were based on the EU Commission stances. “We requested a summarized material for what we have agreed on”, Majko said.

The Albanian Parliament Speaker, Ilir Meta, spoke about the Justice Reform Commission meeting that is being held, saying that “consensus between parties and international monitoring are the pillars of this justice reform”.

“The opinions of EURALIUS are being given today, with the claims of the opposition for the vetting law. We hope to continue in a constructive way. Work for the two other laws we agreed to discuss within August 30th is undergoing. I invite the representatives of the opposition to focus on these two laws”, Meta said for journalists.

The SMI leader added that the critics of the Democratic Party are positive, showing that they have studied the documents.

“I hope that the opposition will help improving and enriching the vetting law. There is no reason why we cannot find consensus. The SMI favors the consensus line. It is important for us to see the evaluations of the international partners”, Meta said.

As for the failed lots procedure of President Nishani, for electing the members of the Council of Justice Appointments, Meta said that the President has acted responsibly. “As Parliament, we need to complete the legal structure so that the President can exert his duty. We hope that the legal vacuum will be soon filled”.
