Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future On May 4th, a few days after the National Day of Justice, academics of
the Albanian jurisprudence will gather in a judicial conference in which
they will analyze the justice critics.
The Head of the Judge Union, Ervin Metalla, declared for Top Channel that by the end of the conference there will be recommendations for each of the justice actors.
“The goal of this conference is not theoretical, but practical and concrete. We want to come with concrete, partial and credible propositions that will have the necessary moral and professional authority for then to be processed in the lawmaking process, which is a political process. Since the jurisprudence personalities are the ones who propose ideas and theories, I believe that we will be credible and welcomed by politics, which is responsible for a good governing in Albania”, Metalla declared.
Asked about one of the problems that are most commonly met in the judicial process, such as the trial delays, the chairman of the Union confirms that they are reviewing the possibility to propose a legislation based on the western models.
“We can find a proposition for a law, as it has happened in the EU countries, which have proposed concrete laws for realizing trials in a reasonable time. The truth is that the judicial problems should not be seen black and white. Which are the conditions in which the judicial system is working today, starting from the building infrastructure and wages of judges and administrative staff? On the other hand, there are problems that are related with the law and the way how politics is behaving with the judicial system. It is very important and should not conclude, so that the judicial system can be seen as part of the problems, rather than the solution of problems”, Metalla declared.
In the conference “The judicial reform as one of the 12 priorities of Albania’s EU integration challenge will have the deputy secretary of the European Court of Strasbourg, Josef Casadeval, and the spouse of the former British Prime Minister, Sheri Blair, and members of the Albanian Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court and other lower courts.
