The US Vice President, Joe Biden, visited Kosovo as part of a two-day
visit in the region, with the purpose to encourage countries with the EU
integration path.

Emphasizing that the USA are Kosovo’s best allies, Biden said that Prishtina needs to pass the demarkation and association of Serbian communes.

“We know that several reforms had to be postponed, but these actions will hardly bring any positive product. We know that the war wounds are still fresh, but the only way for Kosovo is a joint future, that’s why the founding of Serbian communes is necessary, because they would be essential for the advancing of Kosovo and Serbia”, Biden said.

Hashim Thaci guaranteed that the border agreement with Montenegro and the creation of serbian-majority communes are issues that will be closed soon.

“Without the demarkation with Montenegro, without the creation of the Serbian-majority commune association, based on the Constitutional laws of Kosovo, our country would be isolated from the world. We cannot seek help or support from anyone if we don’t fulfill our duties”, Thaci said.

Vice President Biden said corruption is a cancer that would leave Kosovow ithout progress. “We hope to see a strong and democratic Kosovo, a full member of the EU and without corruption”, Biden said.

President Thaci mentioned the global challenge of terrorism. He offered Kosovo’s assistance for this cause, and gave as example the religious communities living in harmony on the road that now holds the name of the late son of Joe Biden.

“In Ferizaj, the Muslim mosque, the Catholic and Orthodox churches are divided by one front yard from each other”, Thaci said.

The US Vice President spoke with nostalgia for Kosovo. He said that not only Washington, but also he and his family have a very special affection for the country.
