Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future
The family members of the four January 21st victims, who were killed 10
months ago in front of the Prime Minister Office, asked the Tirana Court
to access the investigation file for the recent actions that should
help in finding the murderers of Ziver Veizi, Hekuran Deda, Aleks Nika
and Faik Myrto.
“Shqip” newspaper has secured a copy of the request, which has been signed by the relatives of Deda and Veizi, and that will be reviewed next month at the Tirana Court with the object “request for being informed and accessing the investigation file regarding the murders in front of the Prime Minister Office on 21 January 2011”.
This request was made by Zabit Deda, the brother of Hekuran Deda and Caush Veizi, the brother of Ziver Veizi, who addressed the court through the lawyers Dorian Matlija, Andi Kananaj and Theodoros Alexandridis. This request was made on March and October 2011, and the Prosecution finally answered on 8 November 2011, refusing the request.
The prosecution listed a series of problems that impeded this access, such as the legal base, investigative secrecy, the titles of the relatives, etc.
The relatives say that they have understood the prosecution’s work and have preferred to stand aside for 10 months. And during this time, they have received no understanding from the Prosecution being informed about the investigation progresses.
The relatives insist to be able to help with the investigation and to have access to the investigation files, basing their pretenses on article 2 of the European Convention of Human Rights.
The European Court of Human Rights is also reviewing the case Çela against Albania, which the court has accepted the case of unfair trial, based on the victim’s relative pretense that he didn’t gave the conditions to become part of the process. This case shows that the refusal to access the file has been considered an infringement of the Convention of Human Rights.
