On the verge of the January 21st tragedy anniversary, the family members
of the four victims addressed a letter to the US ambassador in Tirana,
Alexander Arvizu.

In this letter, a copy of which has been secured by Top Channel, they ask for help in finding the persons who caused the deaths of Aleks Nika, Ziver Veizi, Hekuran Deda and Faik Myrtaj, so that they can be brought to justice.

The letter starts with these words:

“Our biggest sorrow could be softened with this crime getting solved, by bringing to justice those who ordered the terrible murders. But justice has given no answer, although we’re a few days to the first anniversary of this tragedy. This doubles our pain. It is even more difficult to visit their graves on this anniversary, then when we buried them, because they cannot rest in peace until justice is made”.

By expressing the gratitude of the USA for the help given to the Prosecution in solving this crime, the family members of the four January 21st victims ask Mr. Arvizu to encourage the support of the Prosecution for bringing the authors to justice.

“The media footages of January 21st clearly showed that the firearms were used by the National Guards when the demonstrators were being dispersed. There was no need for any detailed investigation for proving that on 21 January 2011, the forces commanded by the Prime Minister Sali Berisha did not save any lives, but took four of them”, the letter says.

In this letter, the family members of the four January 21st victims transmit their concern to the US Ambassador, Alexander Arvizu, for the repeated declarations of PM Berisha and some government Ministers who say that on January 21st, law was implemented.

“The biggest treachery on January 21st is that people were killed like under a dictatorship regime, while they were in democracy. The repeated cynical attitude of the Prime Minister and the government members shows the complete lack of reflection and regret. The vainglory for the usage of weapons against harmless civilians is the continuance of the government pressures for intimidating, deviating and blocking the investigation of these murders”, the letter says.

The family members of four of the victims conclude the letter by saying:
“There will be no peace and tranquility in Albania until the murderers of the January 21st tragedy are brought to justice. Justice for the January 21st is more than a personal matter, but it is related with the functionality of the rule of law in Albania or not”.

In memory of January 21st

One year after four unarmed opposition protesters were killed in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, the Socialist Party decided to pay homage to Ziver Veizi, Aleks Nika, Faik Myrtaj and Hekuran Deda.

This decision was taken after the opposition leader, Edi Rama, held a meeting with the secretaries of the Socialist Party, with whom he discussed the schedule.

The homage ceremony is expected to be similar to what the opposition organized on January 28th 2011, with the participation of opposition leaders from all over Albania, while the party main leaders will visit the families of the victims in respect of the private ceremony that they will organize.

The Socialist leader also discussed about the 20th anniversary of the Socialist Youth Organization, FRESH.

The January 21st event turned into attention by the end of 2011, when PM Berisha declared that January 21st was a constitutional reaction of the rule of law.

Edi Rama’s reaction was immediate through Twitter, reminding the PM that the Constitutional rule of law will function only when the murderers will be brought to justice and punished.

The same topic was mentioned a few days ago by President Bamir Topi on Deutsche Welle, who considered it as the most serious event of 2011.

It was also commented by the US Ambassador, Alexander Arvizu, in a long interview for the daily newspaper “Shqip”.

Ina Rama: “January 21st” depends on FBI report

e General Prosecutor, Ina Rama, declared this Monday that the investigations for the January 21st tragedy depends on the forensic reports that is expected from the FBI offices in the USA.

Rama declared that these tests will be decisive for the investigation, especially for the National Guard scanner that has been sent to the US, based on suspicions that some footage have been deleted.
