January 21st, Prosecution announces charges

The Prosecution has made public the charges that they sent to the Tirana Court of First Degere for the January 21st events.

There will be two separate processes for these events. National Guard Soldiers Agim Llupo and Margarit Kume, and Commander Ndrea Prendi will be trialed by a judge panel led by Besnik Hoxha, and members Arjana Peco and Ardiana Bera, while the IT Specialist of the Prime Minister’s office will be trialed by a judge panel led by Judge Ibrahim Hoxha.

The official charges against Prendi is that of “intentional murder by putting in danger the life of several people”, foreseen by article 79.ë of the Penal Code”, referring to the death of Faik Myrtaj and the wounding of other citizens.

According to the Prosecution, the shots fired by the National Guard soldier, Agim Llupo, who is waiting his verdict in court, have caused the death of Ziver Veizaj and Hekuran Dedaj.

Llupo is accused of murder in qualifying circumstances, and also for wounding Erald Bisha, Sokrat Gode and journalist Fatos Mahmutaj. The Prosecution declared that the investigations are still undergoing for the other protester that was killed, Aleks Nika.

The Prosecution specifies that the US labs have verified that the weapons of Prendi and Llupo have caused the murders, and the National Guard evidence show that those weapons were on use on January 21st.

The Prosecution has 91 witnesses for this even, which is one of most important trials in the country.
