The Strasbourg Court has accepted the agreement between the relatives of the four January 21st members and the Albanian government, which is ready to open the investigations.
“The investigation on this case has not been conducted according to the standards of this convention. As result, the government will pay the compensation for these families and will also reopen the January 21st case, so that the relatives of the victims can receive justice”, said Dorian Matlia, lawyer of the relatives.
The Albanian government had promised the relatives of killed demonstrator, Hekuran Deda, to reopen the case, as his killer was never found. The relatives made the request at the Tirana Court, but it was denied.
The Court of Appeal is still reviewing the case and hasn’t ruled on the matter. “I hope that I will be able to convince foreign authorities, such as the Council of Ministers and the European Court, so that they can continue to help with this case, since in Albania it looks impossible”, the lawyer said.
