In Brussels just ended the meeting between the Presidents of Kosovo and
Serbia, the first since they declared Kosovo’s independence.

Atifete Jahjaga and Tomislav Nikolic met for the dialogue for normalizing the mutual agreements under the mediation of Baroness Catherine Ashton.

Before meeting with each other, both Jahjaga and Nikolic held separate meetings with the Head of Foreign Policy in the EU, Catherine Ashton.

For the moment there are no data about the dialogue held behind closed doors, but detailed information is expected in the hours to come.

Earlier the day Jahjaga declared that the meeting with the Serbian homologue was a new chapter for both countries in their EU integration path.

Nikolic preferred to not make any public pronunciation. The meeting was greeted by the Albanian President, Bujar Nishani, who declared that this even is a step forward for the future of both countries.

“The meeting between the Presidents of Kosovo and Serbia is an important step, a strong message in support of a constructive dialogue that will serve to the normalization of relations between the two countries”, Nishani declared.

Many EU officials supported the meeting between Jahjaga and Nikolic, including President Herman Van Rompuy.

“Dialogue is the function of the EU spirit to overcome the problems of the past and offer a prospective to all citizens”, Van Rompuy declared.

Today’s meeting will be followed by Prime Minister Thaci and Dacic later this month, and it will be the fifth.
