The Italian Foreign Minister, Paolo Gentilioni, is continuing the
initiative started one year ago by his predecessor, Federica Mogherini,
and held in Rome a meeting between Italy, Albania and Serbia.
The initiative started before the issue created after the Albania-Serbia match, showed once again that the intuition of Italy for intermediating was right.
The Serbian Foreign Minister, Ivica Dacic, valued the initiative of Italy and confirmed the existence of often emotionally affected relations between Albania and Serbia. He said that it is important to follow the advice of our friends, referring to Italy.
The Albanian Foreign Minister, Ditmir Bushati, valued the Italian initiative and underlined the need to progress. Despite the moderated terms and the declarations for cooperation, the Italian media focused their question on the divergences between Belgrade and Tirana.
“We were not devils who suddenly turned angels. Balkan today has no more bloodshed and more clear visions for the future. The main factor for this is the European perspective for Western Balkan”, Bushati declared.
Both Serbia and Albania underlined the strategic partnership with Italy, while the Foreign Minister, Gentilioni, added that his country remains an advocate of European integration. He borrowed the stances expressed by Brussels that this process remains of strategic importance for Europe.
