Italy is working hard so that the EU can keep the negotiations agreement on the table for Albania and Northern Macedonia.
On October 29th, the Macedonian Prime Minister, Zoran Zaev, traveled to Rome.
The Prime Minister of the Italian Government, Giuseppe Conte, who was in Tirana in the last week, is trying to open the EU accession negotiations for Albania and Northern Macedonia regardless of the decision taken by France.
Zaev’s travel comes before the meeting of the EU Council of Ministers that will take place on November 19th, when Italy and the other countries of the block will pressure for a new discussion on the enlargement issue, according to BIRN.
“I will take it slowly with my hopes an optimism because I was the biggest optimist that Europe would approve a date. Let’s work at home and hope that the Eu will open the chapters and take a decision for starting the negotiations”, Zaev said, whose government is preparing for early elections after France’s refusal to open the accession negotiations.
