The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, met with the former Italian Foreign Minister, Franco Frattini, who is also former EU Commissioner for Justice, Freedom and Security.

Frattini had visited Tirana in 2013. He says he was astonished by the changes made in these five years.

“It is a great joy to meet with Mayor Erion Veliaj, who welcomed me as a friend, in a city where I am a citizen of honour. I have a deep affection for this city and for all of Albania. I visited Tirana in 2013 and today I found a cleaner city, with better roads that we also need in Rome, where, unfortunately, there are plenty of potholes. You should come to Rome and tell us how it is done”, Frattini told Veliaj.

“I am happy to receive a Citizen of Honor, Franco Frattini, with a great gratitude for what he has done for our country and our city, once with his authority at the European Union, for the visa liberalization. The fact is that many of us are not staying in lines in embassies to travel abroad”, Veliaj said.

Frattini, who has always been an advocate of Albania’s progress with the integration processes, said that Europe is the final destination for Albanians.
