Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future A team of Italian doctors have helped in 10 surgical interventions on
young heart disease patients at the Tirana University Hospital Center.
“We conducted 9 surgical and 1 hemodynamic interventions, three of which were made for the first time in Albania. The youngest child was 2 weeks old, an urgent case from Kosovo, and the oldest was 12 years old”, declared Altin Vreshti, a pediatric cardiologist.
According to the hosdpital director, Saimir Ivziku, the cooperation with foreign teams will continue, while our pediatric doctors will also assist the Italian pavilions.
“The Tirana University Hospital Center has increased the cooperation with other institutions, and now we have had experiences from foreign medical teams that serve to improve our staff. Another novelty is that the University Hospital in Catanzaro, Italy, will soon open a new cardio-surgery pavilion and they have asked the cooperation of the Albanian doctors”, Ivziku declared.
The heart surgery interventions in small children are made only at the Tirana University Hospital Center, not even in the private clinics in Albania.
