Investigations for the Turkish ship accident

Authorities started investigations and searching for the body of the
“Edir” Ship captain, the 53-year-old Azerbaijani Khajam Mamadov, who
results disappeared after the accident that took place this Sunday near
Durres, when the Turkish ship sank after an inboard explosion.

Albanian Border Police and Italian Guardia di Finanzia are searching the coast, while the Durres Command has established an investigation team.

Part in this investigation team are two divers from the Durres Port Authority. The Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan has requested investigations for the death of the captain. The Ministry instructed the Azerbaijani Embassy in Greece to explain the details of the sea accident and the fate of the Azerbaijani seamen.

Two Georgian sailors died after the 15 minutes of sinking that followed the explosion, Malkhaz Lazishvili, 53, and Beka Urushadze, 22, while 12 others were saved, with two Ukrainian women among them.

The “Edir” ship, with a Sierra Leone flag and Turkish owner sank for less than one hour. The Albanian Maritime Border agents managed to save the remaining crew and sending them to the Durres Hospital, where they are in good health conditions.
