Just elected for a second mandate as head of the Competition Authority,
Lindita Milo Lati declared that the internet and transportation markets
are the last that have been investigated by the institution she
represents.
In an interview for “Shqip”, Lati says:
“The investigations for the internet and maritime passenger transport are underway, together with the markets of gas, fuels and ‘Albtelecom’ prepaid cards. The ‘massive bread’ market in Vlore has been investigated, due to the price increase and fixing, resulting with some of the businesses fined.
Our institution intervened after receiving two complains by companies that operate in the gas import market, and asked the Porto Romano concessionary company to offer its loading and unloading services for natural gas.”
Lati commented on the EBRD competition evaluation report, which gave Albania only 2 minimal points, insinuating that our country is in the beginner phase, since a law was passed and some actions were undertaken for reducing the limits of dominating companies.
“The EBRD competition report, ‘Transition Report 2010’, has incorrect information about the activity of the Competition Authority, because their data belongs to 2008”, Lati declared.
“We contacted EBRD in July 2011, and they apologized for the lack of information for the period of 2009. As for the evaluation methodology, this is an aspect that I would not like to comment, but I think that the questionnaire format does not include all the dimensions of this institution’s activity in law implementation. It doesn’t take in consideration our decisions for recommending public and regulatory institutions, an aspect that is the main pillar of the competition law.”
