Interior Minister: “Improving police-citizen relations”

The Interior Minister, Saimir Tahiri, said the relation of the police
with citizens must change by reforming the core of the police.

“This reform will affect the public perception of the police. We have not inherited a healthy relation between the police and citizens. There was a time when police was seen as a repressive instrument for the citizens and could not generate respect. The police officer experiences his duty as personal issue. They behave violently if they can, if not, they close one eye. This happens when the legal standards are not respected”, Tahiri declared.

As for the corruption among the police, Tahiri said that things have started changing for good.
