Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, expressed his appreciation
for the progress of the EU Integration Action Plan, in which the
Government and Parliament have set the schedule for realizing all
measures until October, when the European Union will publish their
report for Albania’s EU candidate status.
The Prime Minister declared that the last six months saw the realization of great reforms, with the electoral reform as the most important, together with the immunity limitation that passed in Parliament through a wide consensus, despite the harsh debates that had followed it.
However, some tasks are still unfulfilled, many of which require qualified majority. According to the Prime Minister, a positive signal from the opposition would be their vote even for simple majority laws.
“We hope to see political will to cooperate for the Supreme Court Law and the Civil Service law, same as they showed it for the immunity lifting and the Electoral Reform. It would be very nice to have the cooperation of all political forces even for laws that don’t require qualified majority”, Berisha declared.
As regards the electoral reform, Prime Minister Berisha considered it as a good legal base for holding the elections according to the best international standards.
“The opposition had initiated most of the propositions. They were satisfied when the reform was realized and they made a positive evaluation. I feel the obligation to give maximal guarantees for the elections, which are something of vital interest for the opposition”, Berisha declared.
