Xhevrie Lahi, a female inmate at prison 313, charged for murdering her
husband, has not been allowed to meet her children by her late husband’s
relatives even after publicly pleading on the media one year ago.

A meeting of inmates with their children was organized before school started, but none of the female prisoners were there. Although the prison has made several requests, the relatives have not allowed them to meet their children.

“We have two female prisoners who cannot communicate with their families. We have tried to enable dialogue and we even realized a phone conversation, but it was impossible to break this taboo”, declared Specialist Petrit Collaku.

The same issue was present in other prisons, especially with women who are charged of murder. Some of them have not seen their children in years. In this meeting were also allowed the spouses of inmates, some of whom were charged for drug traffic or for participation in an organized crime gang.
