The 99th Independence Anniversary was celebrated in the city of Vlore, in a ceremony organized by the Municipality. The fathers who founded the Albanian state signed the first Independence Declaration in this city, and in a significant ceremony for the entire Albanian nation, they raised the red and black flag in what’s called today “The Flag’s Square”.

At the Flag’s Square, near the monument dedicated to the Independence, was held the main ceremony for the Independence Day. Mayor Shpetim Gjika criticized the government for leaving Vlore aside, the city where the Independence was announced.

“Those who put power above everything else, will not be able to fade the shining of November 28th, the Flag’s Square and our heroic Vlore, the symbol of all Albanians. These men who are carved in bronze appeal us to be vigilant, because history cannot be undone. It is one and will always remain as such”, Gjika declared.

The President of Albania, Bamir Topi, wished to the Albanians a happy
Independence Day from the city of Vlore, where the Albanian Flag was
raised 99 years ago by Ismail Qemali.

“Our honors go to the father of our nation, the baptizer of our independence, Ismail Qemali, to man who serves as a model for sacrifice, wisdom and great decisions”, Topi declared, after placing wreaths at Ismail Qemali’s grave.

The President underlined that the project that started on 1912, was followed in 2008 with Kosovo’s Independence, adding that now we are two independent Albanian states, with same aspirations and feelings.

“Let us celebrate this day, strengthen our connections, because the good deeds for the country can be achieved through cooperation”, the President declared.
