Albania has reached record levels of imports of alcoholic beverages. This is confirmed by the institute of statistics INSTAT which states that there is an increase of 12.5% in comparison with 2019, while during the pandemic their trade volume in the country was lower.
Meanwhile, Albanians seem to have reduced tobacco consumption compared to 2020, and increased coffee consumption.
Toxicologist doctor Irena Ceko confirms this trend by saying that emergency cases with alcohol intoxication have increased.
The increase in the alcohol trade is thought to have come as a result of the relaxing of restrictive measures, but also from the launch of various sports or cultural activities in the country, as people feel liberated from the isolation of the pandemic.
