The International Monetary Fund declared that the Albanian economy is
recovering, as foreseen by them, and the public finances of the country
are getting better.
“The economic growth is accelerating. The public debt has started dropping since from its peak in 2015”, says the recent report on the economic situation of Albania.
In this report, the IMF notes that the implementation of the reforms by the authorities has been solid. “Supported by a strong majority in Parliament, the government has undertaken important structural reforms in areas such as energy, pensions and bankruptcy”, the report says.
The IMF kept its prediction unchanged for the economic growth during the rest of this year, at 3.4%, and 3.8% for the next year. However, they note that risks are still high, especially from external factors.
The IMF says that the passing of the justice reform was a significant achievement for reinforcing the justice system in the fight against corruption.
The IMF encourages the government to preserve the fiscal discipline and deepen the reforms that encourage economic growth, in order to soften the negative effects that come from Eurozone uncertainties.
According to the IMF, a critical point for this remains the high level of bad loans, which is still hampering the revival of loans.
