An Albanian-Polish expedition that is digging around the Rozafa Castle
has made important discoveries regarding some ancient roman writings,
dating 31 B.C, in the period of Emperor Augustus.

The importance of this discovery stands on the fact that until today was thought that the Illyrian city at the Rozafa castle dated to a later period, but this discovery ranks the Rozafa Illyrian town at the same level as Butrinti, Bylis and Durres.

“We have found some structures of the Ottoman period and then some Latin inscriptions. We cleaned the cistern and found four roman inscriptions”, declared the archeologist Saimir Shpuza.

The director of the Shkoder Archeological Park, Nikolin Shazi declared that this expedition aims to discover the Illyrian antiquity around Rozafa castle, with a 5 year long digging project.
