Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The former “February 4th Martyrs” street changed its name today to
“Ibrahim Rugova”, in honor of the former Kosovo President, in presence
of his family members.
The Mayor of Tirana, Lulzim Basha, declared that this was a proposal made by the Prime Minister, in the recent Municipal Council meeting, and which received the votes of the majority.
“The Tirana Citizens and I are very honored that today, one of the main streets of our Capital will have the name of President Rugova, which honors every Albanian citizen”, Basha declared.
Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, valued the figure of Ibrahim Rugova as the architect of the independent Kosovo.
“We thank President Rugova for everything that he did for the Albanians, who today honor him with great respect”, Berisha declared.
The Mayor of Prishtina, Isa Mustafa, thanked the Albanian authorities for this initiative on an important day like February 17th, which signs the 4rth independence anniversary of Kosovo.
This will be the second road in Tirana that has the name of the former Kosovo President. Another reconstructed and paved road has the same name, also approved with a Municipal Council meeting.
The Head of the Municipal Unit 7, Erjon Koka, who managed the territory of this road, tried to clarify this matter with the Municipal Council, but he hasn’t been heard.
“I have tried several times to express this issue at the Municipal Council, but I have never been allowed to speak. Before naming a road, you must check if there is already a road with that name. If you want to name this road, than you have to rename the other one. We have two Ibrahim Rugova Roads, both in the middle of Tirana”, Koka declared.
Two roads with the same name could create confusions for the citizens and Tirana’s Address Book.
