The Archbishop of Albania, Anastas Janullatos, made a summary of the works done by the Albanian Autocephalous Church in the past 25 years.

In an interview for the Greek TV SKAI, he said that his successor will certainly be Albanian.

“This is very clear. I have been there for many years. Look. We don’t have the courage to see events from each other’s eyes. Imagine if we had this here in Greece. Would we accept someone from Bulgaria or from Serbia to lead the church? I see it logical that my successor will be Albanian. We didn’t go there to create a colony. We went to create the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania”, said the Archbishop of Greece, Anastas.

“The Orthodox Church of Albania never gets involved in political matters, but every Orthodox is a responsible member and citizen who must have his say in various problems”, Janullatos said.

As for the economic crisis of Greece, the Archbishop said they should look for blame within themselves.

He spoke for Islam as well, saying that Western countries have not taken it seriously, leaving gaps through which extremism has penetrated the societies.

“Islam is not an easy matter. We must understand that there is not just one type of Islam. The way how some people experience Islam is also different. Some extremists see it under the light of fanatism, and we can see what is happening. As you know, extreme interpretations are more acceptable to the common people, than interpretations with lower tones”, Janullatos said.

As for the events in Himara, he said that the property issue in Albania is more complex and there are delays, same as with the properties of the church. But everything, he said, should be resolved with dialogue and positivity.
