On the 24th day of the hunger strike, the health situation of the former
political prisoners has deteriorated. They say that last night was
difficult, due to the heavy rain and the cold weather under the
improvised tent.

“Almost all blankets are out of order. If the bad weather will continue, the situation will be even wors”, declared Fatmir Lamaj, a former political prisoner.

Tensions peaked during the day when the police stopped striker Arif Beu from returning to the tent. He had left two days ago due to a health problem of his daughter.

“My daughter is in hospital and I had to meet her, but now they don’t allow me to turn back”, Beu declared.

After facing the police, the strike coordinators warned for a new strike in a new premise and with new strike members.

The former political prisoners thanked former Prime Minister Pandeli Majko as a citizen, as they said, for the help that he offered, together with many other citizens.

Former prisoners in protest: Government to start dialogue

The former political prisoners asked the international community in Tirana to help establishing a dialogue between the hunger strikers and the government.

“On the 24th day of strike, the head of the Political Prisoners Association, Skender Tufa, declared that the hunger strikers’ situation has deteriorated and an immediate reaction of the state is needed for finding a solution in full accordance with the law, so that there will be no victims.

Tufa declared that the hunger strike is only economically motivated and he accused the Albanian politics of being insensible for this human act.
