Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The three suspects for the January 21st events were present at the Tirana First Degree Court for their arrest measure.
The session for the former National Guard commander, Ndrea Prendi, and his driver, Margarit Kume, lasted only a few seconds, because the respective lawyers made no request for changing the arrest order in this judicial grade.
They left it up to the Court of Appeal for giving their opinion about the suspicions raised by the Prosecution.
The former National Guard commander, together with his lawyer, Genc Gjokutaj, declared that on January 21st he defended the institutions from violence, insinuating that he wouldn’t plead guilty.
“General Prendi has defended a Constitutional Institution. I greet the Prosecution’s decision to ask the immunity removal for the organizers of the protest, and I hope that they will continue this way”, Gjokutaj declared.
The defending lawyer of the Prime Minister’s IT, Armando Kasaj, used another kind of defense. He declared that he hadn’t deleted any file in the Prime Minister’s Office server.
According to the defense, he had left the Ministry at 23:30, while the files have been deleted later. He admitted that he had copied the files, in full accordance with the regulation, and sent them to the respective offices. The court left the house arrest order unchanged for the three suspects.
