After a pilot project, the Council of Ministers issued an order to start
the accreditation of all public and private hospitals in Albania.

The Health Minister, Vangjel Tavo, underlined that this process obliges hospitals to increase quality and security of their services to patients. If not accredited, public or private hospitals will not be certified and will not be contracted by the Health Care and Insurance Institution.

“This is a process that serves to the citizens, since it aims to increase quality and security of the Health Service. This includes public and private health institutions too. The citizens will know where to go and what certification the institutions will have”, declared the Health Minister, Vangjel Tavo.

The applying hospitals are accredited only after fulfilling some standards that are related with the usage of medicaments, urgency services, surgery services, qualified personnel, etc.

“Accrediting health institutions means making a periodic evaluation by an authorized agency to verify the safety and quality standards previously published by the Health Ministry”, Isuf Kalo declared.

The Health Minister Vangjel Tavo met with public and private hospital leaders, asking them to start the accrediting reforms at the Centre of Security, Quality and Accrediting.
