The Ministry of Food and Agriculture declared that all inspections held
at 12 pharmaceutical depots and 108 veterinarian pharmacies found to
traces of Boldemec that has been banned in Albania since 2006.

The Ministry explained that this substance is registered by the Peruvian company AGROVET, with 4000 flacons imported in 2007, 600 of which have been sold. Boldemec expired in June and the company had them in stock.

This quantity will be eliminated within a few days by the authorities. After Top Channel’s report that Boldemec could be bought in Albania, the Ministry held inspections in Shkoder and Elbasan, and the official report says that there is no trace of this medicine.

But the investigations held by Top Channel show that the flacons that were bought in veterinarian pharmacies expire in June 2013. This is a hormonal medicine, based on testosterone, and it is used to increase the body mass of animals. The usage is very dangerous for people who consume the meat of these animals.
