The city of Shkoder honoured the role of Luigj Gurakuqi and Isa Boletini
in the declaration of Independence. The Parliament Speaker, Jozefina
Topalli, placed wreaths in their monuments.
“Luigj Gurakuqi was a giant liberator, the authentic architect of the European project for Albania. He signed the Independence Act and supported the 1912 rebellions. He was the right wing of Ismail Qemali, the model of the great Albanian and a participant in the Congress of Manastir. He was the model of a man of morals who loved this country without conditions and dedicated every minute of his life to Albania”, Topalli declared.
For Isa Boletini, Parliament Speaker Topalli quoted a British MP who had described him as one of the greatest fighters in Albania, an extraordinary and legendary figure. The British MP Aubrey Herbert, one of the most well known diplomats of that era, considered Isa Boletini the Robin Hood of Albanians. Without his fights, rebellion, great spirit and complete trust to the national unification, it would have been impossible to achieve the independence on 28 November in Vlore”.
