Honors of May 5th / Heads of state pay respect to the fallen with physical distancing

The Martyrs’ Day honors brought today together Prime Minister Edi Rama and President Ilir Meta.

Due to pandemic the differenty held ceremony placed the highest heads of state, Meta, Ruçi and Rama, at a distance from each other.
President Meta chose to speak after the homage in front of the “Mother Albania” memorial, this time not about politics.

Earlier, the leader of the opposition Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, paid his honors separately from the rest, as every May 5th. Basha also honored the ‘Hero of Democracy’, Azem Hajdari, as well as Captain Feti Vogli, who lost his life in Afghanistan, on a mission for Albania as a full member of NATO.

The mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj wrote on his Facebook page:
“Glory to the Martyrs of the Nation! We bow to the memory of those who gave their lives for the freedom, dignity and rights of every Albanian “.
