Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future Homeless families that live on rented buildings that belong to someone
else were revolted against the normative act of the Government that
orders them to leave the houses until November 1st.
They’re asking the government to shelter them in social buildings, since they cannot afford loans. They add that they have nothing against the owners wanting to enjoy their property.
A building that shelters 12 families has four of them living only in the basement, and all four families use only one bathroom. The homeless families say that they have paid rent and taxes to the state and cannot go out on the street without having another place to go.
Opposition supports homeless families’ protest
The homeless families protested by blocking a road in the center of Tirana, asking the government to take measures for their sheltering. They were supported by the Socialist Party MPs.
“The government must find a solution for you, rather than throwing you on the streets or leaving you in asylums, as Sokol Olldashi says. Don’t fall for Berisha’s trap, because today he will put you against the former owners. The former owners have their right to enjoy their properties and an agreement must be found. This is not a war of classes, when one should still keep the home because he voted for the DP, and the other who voted for the SP must leave or go to asylums”, Saimir Tahiri declared.
The families have to liberate the houses on November first and they promised to protest next Thursday in front of the Parliament.
