Albanian exports started growing after 10 months in negative trend. The
exports increased with 1.5% in April, compared to April 2015. Official
data from the Institution of Statistics say that the main cause was the
positive progress of the manufacturing industry.

INSTAT says that shoes and textiles increased with 37.8% compared to April 2015.

Agricultural exports also increased with 50%, compared to the same period of one year ago, although the total remains low.

Despite the light growth in April, exports are 5.9% lower than the past year, due to the negative growth in the first trimester.

Exports were damaged due to the lower oil price and other minerals in the global markets. These used to be Albania’s main exports for years. In parallel, another element with negative progress are exports of construction materials that were damaged by the bankruptcy of KURUM.

The tendency of imports remains positive. INSTAT data show that the total imports for the first four months were increased with 7.7% due to the positive progress  in the purchase of machineries and construction materials, mostly due to the start of the TAP Project.
