Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future Since the health service in our country keeps being problematic and the
conditions in hospitals are still challenging, the Albanian Prime
Minister, Sali Berisha, believes that the situation could change only by
reforming the health system.
In the first National Conference for Health Policies, organized in cooperation with the World Health Organization, Prime Minister Berisha defended the idea that the situation cannot be improved only by increasing the budget, but by changing the way how the health service for citizens is managed.
“The biggest problem doesn’t derive from the lack of specialists. Our problem has been the management. We came from a bad managing system, and without management there is no success. The health necessities cannot be confronted without a good management. It is wrong thinking that they can be faced by increasing the budget frequently. They can be confronted by exploiting the available funds in the most rational way. A new generation of managers should be prepared, who can have the responsibility to manage this system”, Berisha declared.
It is yet unclear if the management of public health centers will be private or not, but Berisha declared that he had supported the idea of the Medicine Faculty dean for creating a new branch, that of Health Management.
