Heads of communes haven’t paid electricity. 640.000 USD debt

The Director General, Ardian Cela, declared that there are dozens of commune leaders who have not paid energy bills for years, causing a damage of hundreds and thousands of Euros.

“There are more than 637.000 USD of obligations caused by the heads of communes throughout Albania. The head of the Lazarat commune only owes more than 147.000 USD to the government. Let’s hope that this shame will end in the next week”, Cela declared.

The Head of the Distribution System Operator appealed the elected officials to pay their debts or there will be harsh punitive measures.

“They should not hide behind the immunity. They should take their responsibilities and start paying, otherwise we will address the Prosecution and the government with a request for discharging them, regardless of their party affiliations”, Cela declared.

The Director of the Distribution System Operator published the latest results of their action for hitting the energy theft and for collecting debts, which, according to him, has brought results that had never been heard in 20 years.

“I want to greet Tropoja, where the unpaid energy was 3 million ALL per month, and in the first 12 months of December we collected 26 million ALL. We have a new situation with citizens in Tropoja, who are now joining this effort for the best of our country”, Cela declared.
