The head of the Parliamentary Group of Socialists in power, Niko Peleshi, in an interview with Top Channel’s Muhamed Veliu, shows details about a government initiative that includes increasing transparency and communication with citizens.
Veliu: You told the parliament yesterday that the Albanian government is working to formulate a new ambition in terms of transparency. What is it about?
Niko Peleshi: With the Presidency of the group, we held an extended meeting held with the Albanian government on Sunday, where, among other things, PM Rama expressed the will and ambition to raise the transparency of the government, its institutions and agencies, to another level.
“In two words, we have a good law on the right to public information, but until its implementation it needs improvements. Because today the public opinion, journalists, all interested parties are used to having the information in real time, also because of technology, they have the mobile phone in hand, while the public information law has its own time tables. On the other hand, the platform of information communication, access to extensive information, is somewhat out of date. The government intends to rebuild an information tower, where access is in real time. An ‘Open Data’ for everything that happens, so that they can be accessed in real time. This also helps in involving the public with real-time decision-making. I believe that we will make Albania the most transparent government in the Western Balkans”, said Peleshi.
