
The head of the Albanian Orthodox Church, Archbishop Anastas Janullatos, met the highest Greek authorities today in Athens, recently resigned Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and President Prokopis Pavlopoulos.
State press agency, AMNA, reported Tsipras has a very special relationship with Janullatos, and assured him Athens is closely following his work for the orthodox community and the Albanian people, something that goes beyond reviving of the faith in the country. Janullatos is reported to have invited Tsipras to Albania, weather he is reelected or not.
The two also discussed the hot topic of the church in Dhërmi, maintaining the official stance of the Albanian Orthodox Church that its demolition damages private property and religious freedom in Albania.
The Archbishop also met with President Pavlopoulos and vice Foreign Minister, Jannis Amanatidis, discussing with the two about the Greek minority problems in Albania, latest political developments in Greece and the refugee crisis in Greece and other EU countries.
