Haxhinasto: Regional defense cooperation

This meeting was organized by the Albanian Parliament and aims a deep reform in the cooperation method and the financing of not only the NATO countries, but also in those that aspiring membership. The Albanian Foreign Minister, Edmond Haxhinasto, considered the financial limitation due to the crisis as a good opportunity to increase the cooperation between the regional countries.

 “The resource limitations are orienting towards a new approach, to that of changing the current cooperation policies between the ally countries. These limitations are serving as catalysts for increasing cooperation, which aims the development and preservation of the necessary military capabilities, which will enable us to fulfill the new challenges and tasks, according to the new strategic concept of the Alliance that was approved in Lisbon”, Haxhinasto declared.

The Minister of Defense, Arben Imami, declared that this reform does not aim to reduce the role and the support of the NATO countries, but to implement the same services with fewer investments.

The Southeastern European representatives singed a joint declaration where they engaged for a further cooperation and coordination for realizing what is called “smart defense”.
